Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located in the heart of the Flint Hills region of Kansas. This physically geographic region extends from the Nebraska state line southward into northern Oklahoma and is from 30 to 100 miles wide. The hills are usually flat topped with concave slopes that have developed on the underlying limestone and shale ...The National Park Trust purchased the property in 1994, and it was designated the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in 1996. Since then, the National Park Trust has donated some of the land to the National Park Service (NPS) and sold the rest to The Nature Conservancy, which partners with the NPS to protect the prairie ecosystem.The two ramps lead from the ground level. The barn is so large that a team of horses could be driven up the ramps and completely turn around in the top floor of the barn without difficulty. This barn measures 110 feet by 60 feet.
