The tractor will turn over and if I hold the key to the start position, seems to run/start, but as soon as I let the key return to the on postion, the engine dies and will not stay running.Connect one end of a jumper positive cable to the nut on the side of the starter where the big wire connects. Unplug the smaller wire on the starter. Turn the key to ON and touch the other end of the jumper cable to the spade terminal where the small wire was connected - it will pull in the solenoid which will run the starter.If this does not work, replace it with a new Kubota fuel cap. 4. Kubota Mower has a Bad Spark Plug or Loose Connection . A dirty spark plug is used on a gas-powered Kubota mower. A fouled spark plug can cause your Kubota mower to not start. Thanks for your help. It was the PTO lever. It had dropped into the engaged position. I could not get it up out of the position. However, after "working" with it, it finally moved back up, and the tractor started right up. I managed to get out the stump I've been trying to dig out by hand for months. If you do NOT see +12 on the small connector with key in 'start' position, the problem is likely one of the safety switches. The easiest way to test the safety switches is to unplug connector, jumper the 2 wires together and RE-try starting. Do this, one safety-switch at a time until you locate the one which does allow cranking engine.
