The nids are one of, if not the most customizable army in the game. They can play in every phase of the game so you can decide if you wanna go mixed or heavily 1 way or another in psychic, shooting and/or melee. Bonus points for being able to paint nids in almost every color combo you want and still be lore accurate.I've just got back into MTG after a few years hiatus, and have gone foot first into EDH. I've started with the tyranid swarm deck because I love 40K as well, and I've done some upgrades already (have used mtg goldfish as a guide for now) to make a X mana ramp deck.

Tyranid Swarm loves counters, and particularly focuses growing Creatures with +1/+1 counters. The Swarmlord Commander comes in as a scary 7/7 that helps you draw cards whenever any Creature with a counter dies.
