She left Tabriz for Tehran with her family in 1912 and then lived in Tehran. She learned Arabic and Persian literature from her father, a well-known literary figure. E’tesami and other female poets who followed in her steps, developed their “female” identity into active subjects of the poems rather than mere contemplators of aesthetic works, as they had been previously in relation to male poets. For E’tesami, poetry was a humanistic approach to depict the characteristics of Iranian women.
