Arthrophycus (Hall, 1852) DESCRIPTION: Oblique to horizontal, cross-cutting, branching burrows. Burrows are parallel or subparallel sided, sometimes with tapering ends. Burrows are sometimes bilobed longitudinally and show transverse annulations. Can be found solitary, few burrows, or as a cluster. BEHAVIOR (S): Feeding burrow (fodichnia)The Sargassum subgenera Bactrophycus and Arthrophycus were considered to be geographically restricted to the northern and southern hemispheres, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses of 19 Sargassum subgenus Bactrophycus species and eight Sargassum subgenus Arthrophycus species, based on a concatenated dataset of the loci ITS-2, cox 3 and the rbc ...Massanutten Sandstone, Woodstock Tower, Massanutten Mountain, VA. Jan 12, 2010 · Arthrophycus is the name paleontologists assigned to a group of trace fossils that range from single to compound elongate burrows displaying transversely annulated (ringed or banded) markings. Arthrophycus alleghaniensis applies to those compound, fan-like assemblages of annulated burrows appearing on the bases of sandstone beds. Cluster analysis sorts the ichnospecies of Arthrophycus into two groups: a cluster of five ichnospecies, comprising A. alleghaniensis, A. brongniartii, A. lateralis, A. minimus, and A. parallelus...…
