Surface water and groundwater

Water is a crucial component of the environment; but surface water and groundwater quality have long been deteriorating due to both natural and human-related activities. Natural factors that influence water quality are hydrological, atmospheric, climatic, topographical and lithological factors ( Magesh et al., 2013 , Uddinet al., 2018 ).

The extent and condition of ground water are often intertwined. Stressors that affect the extent of ground water—such as withdrawal or injection—can change ground water velocity and flow. These physical changes can affect patterns of discharge to surface waters and the movement of water and contaminants within the ground.There are several causes of groundwater pollution. Some of the common ones include: 1. Natural Sources. Naturally occurring substances found in the soil and rocks can be dissolved in water, causing contamination.
